This year CIE worked on updating the policy and procedure for the council, approving the transferability of GI courses, approving new courses, and furthering the discussion of the Foreign Language Global Issues (FLGI) requirement. COURSE APPROVALS During the past academic year, CIE approved four General Education Global Issues courses and Discipline Specific Global Issues courses. BAT 300 (Business Practices and Culture in Ireland) approved for Short Term Study Abroad Global Issues HIST 115 (World History to 1500) HIST 116 (World History Since 1500) HIST 211 (Technology and Science in World History) The Faculty Senate approved all of these courses for Global Issues status. FLGI REQUIREMENT Faculty Senate advised formation of an ad-hoc committee to revisit the discussion on the FLGI requirement. This ad-hoc committee is comprised of 8 members 4 senators (one from each college), and 4 members from Faculty Senate councils. Bhavneet was chosen to represent CIE on this ad-hoc committee. GI ASSESSMENT INSTRUMENT A large number of departments responded and sent in the assessment instruments. However, it was decided from the Provost office that CIE cant assess courses. Rather, it should do a review of the courses. CIE will proceed with further discussion on how to review courses. TRANSFERING GLOBAL ISSUES CREDIT FOR COURSES TAKEN AT ANOTHER UNIVERSITY After discussing with Angela Lynn (Registrar), Council unanimously approved the transferability of GI credit taken at a different university. UPDATING POLICY AND PROCEDURE FORM CIE is currently working on updating the policy and procedure form for the Council. This is the first time that the policy and procedure form is being updated. A few topics in the original policy and procedure are either irrelevant or have changed over the past few years. CIE is waiting on the decision of the sub-committee appointed by Senate regarding the FLGI requirement to complete the policy and procedure form. WAIVING GI REQUIREMENT FOR VETERANS CIE rejected the proposal to waive GI requirement for veterans, and supports to handle it case by case. Thanks I would like to formally thank all members of CIE for their efforts and thoughtful comments during the past year. Officers for 2015-2016 Academic Year Gary Schmidt will serve as the Chair of CIE. Kimberly McDaniel will serve as Recording Secretary.
