MACOMB, IL – Mark Mossman, chair of the Â鶹Éç Illinois University Department of English, has been named interim associate provost and director of the Â鶹Éç School of Graduate Studies, beginning Aug. 1.

He takes over for Nancy Parsons, who retired earlier this summer.

Mossman came to Â鶹Éç as an assistant professor of English in 2001 and was promoted to associate professor in 2005 and professor in 2010. Prior to being named department chair, Mossman was director of graduate studies in English, and chair of the English and journalism department, before journalism was joined with broadcasting in 2014.

In addition to his chair responsibilities, Mossman has co-lead Â鶹Éç's Dual Enrollment Program, served as primary lead in Â鶹Éç's College of Arts and Sciences Educational Summits, as a member of Â鶹Éç's President's Executive Institute and developed a living and learning community for the liberal arts at Â鶹Éç.

"Mark's administrative experience and his involvement with Â鶹Éç's dual enrollment initiatives with area high schools will help him hit the ground running in this position," said Interim Provost and Academic Vice President Kathy Neumann.

Prior to coming to Â鶹Éç, Mossman was an assistant professor of English at Bethany College in West Virginia.

Mossman received his bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville and his doctoral degree in English from St. Louis University.
