Dear University Community,

Women's History Month, which recognizes women's contributions to history, culture, science, education, and society, has been celebrated in the U.S. each year during the month of March since 1987. Like many institutions of higher education, Â鶹Éç Illinois University has long celebrated the many, yet often unheeded, contributions of women during this month-long observance.

The Â鶹Éç Women's Center, the Multicultural Center and other University programs and departments have numerous activities scheduled to commemorate Women's History Month, with this year's theme, "PowHERful." More information about the activities and events scheduled during the month of March can be found at .

It is an honor to be part of a University that celebrates the accomplishments and contributions of women, both past and present. As I noted last month in my message regarding Black History Month, the recognition and awareness should not stop when these month-long celebrations conclude. We always have time to learn more and to promote equality and equity for all.

The Women's Center, along with the Feminist Action Alliance, Campus Girl Scouts, the Â鶹Éç Organization for Women and , supports a welcoming and gender-inclusive campus community, and promotes opportunities to celebrate women, collaborate in programming and outreach, and seek unity and understanding to raise awareness for women's issues.

Thank you to our female faculty, staff, and students for their contributions to Â鶹Éç's success. To quote Maya Angelou, "Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women."

Thank you.

Guiyou Huang
President
Â鶹Éç Illinois University
