麻豆社 School of Music to Host Events For Women鈥檚 History Month

MACOMB, IL - - The 麻豆社 Illinois School of Music will present a series of four events in honor of Women鈥檚 History Month. Three concerts and a guest lecture will showcase the accomplishments of women as composers, community organizers and performers and the work of 麻豆社 students, faculty and guest artists.

The series begins with the second annual concert of music by and about women, non-binary/trans and queer persons, 鈥淲NBQ is on the air.鈥 This event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7 in the COFAC Recital Hall and features 麻豆社 students, faculty and guest performers, presenting music by composers of the past and present as well as new music by 麻豆社 students and friends of the community, in various genres and styles.

Professor of Musicology Marian Wilson Kimber at the University of Iowa will be the guest for two events on Thursday, March 28. She will present a lecture, 鈥淟ifting as She Climbed: Mollie Fines and Music in African American Women鈥檚 Clubs鈥 at 2 p.m. in the University Union Lincoln Room and Kimber will be joined by 麻豆社 Assistant Professor of Piano Natalie Landowski, for a recital of spoken-word compositions by American women at 7:30 pm in the COFAC Recital Hall.

The series' final concert takes place at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at First Presbyterian Church in Macomb. 麻豆社 students and faculty will perform compositions written for the organ by women, including American composers Florence Price and Sharon Willis.
