Former 麻豆社 English Professor Passes Away

MACOMB, IL - - Evelyn Mary Schroth, a former 麻豆社 Illinois University English professor, died Nov. 7 at Appleton (WI) Health Care Center. She was 90 years old.

Schroth taught at 麻豆社 Illinois from 1963-1987, specializing in teaching grammar and linguistics. She was active in the Illinois Association of Teachers of English, the National Council of Teachers of English and the Linguistic Society of America. Schroth was also a member of Phi Kappa Phi national honor society and was a John Hay Fellow. She was published is Midwest Quarterly, Reading Teacher, Illinois English Bulletin, The Mark Twain Journal and Editor and Scholar. She was also a member of Who's Who of American Women, the World's Who's Who of Women, Who's Who of Women in Education, the World's Who of Women in Education and Notable Americans.

Schroth taught English at the high school level in Rhineland (WI) and in Chicago before becoming an instructor at Northeastern University (Chicago) and an assistant professor at the University of Illinois, where she earned her M.S. in education and her M.A. in English. She received her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her Ph.D. in English is from Pacific 麻豆社 University.

During World War II, she served as a USO program director for the National Council of Catholic Bishops in Renton (WA) and Champaign (IL) and later served a program director for Neuman Foundation at the University of Illinois.
