MACOMB, IL - - As part of National Transfer Student Week, Â鶹Éç Illinois University highlights the journey of transfer student Angel Powyer. Angel's path reflects her adaptability and the opportunities available for transfer students at Â鶹Éç.

Powyer began her college journey at Howard University, a large, out-of-state institution, before transferring to the College of Lake County, a community college. In 2022, she decided to transfer to Â鶹Éç as a sophomore majoring in Social Work and a minor in Psychology.

"I didn't want to go back to a school in a big city and I was kind of familiar with Â鶹Éç because my brother had gone here previously," Powyer said.

Since her arrival, Powyer has embraced the opportunities Â鶹Éç has to offer.

"My experience has been very positive," Powyer said. "I've gotten to do a lot of things that I had never thought would be fun. For example, I love playing bingo now because of Â鶹Éç. I also have made so many new friends within my major, within my job, living on campus and even during events."

One of the most rewarding aspects of her time at Â鶹Éç has been her role as an admissions ambassador.

"Getting a job on campus as an admissions ambassador has made me love the campus so much more because I get to see incoming students and be part of the reason that people come," Powyer explained. "It's also made me learn so much because of the events I go to."

Angel offers simple yet impactful advice for other transfer students.

"Â鶹Éç is what you make it. You will meet great people here and hopefully, you'll love every step of the way," Powyer said.

Powyer's story showcases the different experiences transfer students can have at Â鶹Éç, where the journey to success is shaped by the vibrant community and opportunities available to all who choose to join.
