Patriot Day
Wednesday, September 11, 2024 鈥� 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. 鈥� JIDE office: University Union, Suite 110
Join JIDE in commemorating 鈥淧atriot Day鈥� with information that recalls the bravery of everyday people and shows what can be done when differences are put aside. Check out the 9-11 materials, add your comments to our Patriot Day Memory Book, and grab a free USA flag sticker or badge as a memento of a day of American heroism and people uniting for the common good.
By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89), Congress designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day," and by Public Law 111-13 (April 21, 2009), Congress has requested the observance of September 11 as an annually recognized "National Day of Service and Remembrance." A Presidential Proclamation each year calls upon all departments, agencies, and instrumentalities of the United States to display the flag of the United States at half-staff on Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance in honor of the individuals who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
A Shady Conversation

Throwing shade limits what is possible. The inability to share ideas prevents us from getting to know each other. If we can鈥檛 talk and process ideas with each other then there is chaos, anger and no room for understanding and growth. It is a lose-lose situation for everyone as ideas are shutdown, lost or are never shared and feelings are hurt. You are invited to a workshop that will provide tips and techniques on how to discuss and argue sensitive, messy, controversial, hot button topics with civility, calm and style. Learn strategies to disagree in a way that is not destructive.
The ability to work effectively with a diversity of perspectives and people is a skill valued by employers and a world in need of hope.

We Can Do Better: An Implicit Bias and Microaggressions Workshop

The 2023 webinar by Dr. Jamie Washington, a world-renowned expert on implicit bias and microaggressions, will be the foundation of an interactive and action-oriented session on what it takes to create inviting, respectful, welcoming and supportive professional and personal relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Be prepared to have your mind expanded and your skills enhanced.
